Systems biology is a field of study that focuses on the interactions between the many components of biological systems and tries to predict how these interactions give rise to the function and behavior of the system. At the cellular/organismic level, systems biology combines genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. UCSD has an active Plant Systems Biology research and training program that is supported by an IGERT grant from the National Science Foundation.
